top picks of 2007

At the final meeting of 2007, with all five members in attendance (as usual), a secret vote was taken regarding the “best read” of 2007. All five members participated in the voting and rank ordered their three choices for the best read of 2007. The totals were tallied secretly by two members and the results were revealed by the end of the meeting.

Though there was some shock and dismay and mild accusations of cheating, the first prize went to The Road by Cormac McCarthy, an uplifting and bright novel about nuclear destruction. There was a tie for second prize, between Empire Falls by Richard Russo and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. Finally, third prize was awarded to Out by Natsuo Kirino, an uplifting tale of murder and dissection.

  1. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
  2. Empire Falls by Richard Russo
    Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
